Matt O'Hara

Matt O'Hara is a professor of history at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he has taught since 2006. He is the author or editor of four books and has received fellowships and support from the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Philosophical Society, the Tinker Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, where he was named an NEH Public Scholar for his work on The Flying Death.

The Flying Death is his first work of narrative history written for a general audience. As in his earlier academic works, it is built from the ground up using thousands of pages of documents scattered across multiple archives. It also draws upon oral histories and interviews conducted in the Amazon and the United States.

He lives with his family in Santa Cruz, California.
